The first publication of God So Loved the World by Goudge was in December 1950 when Woman’s Journal printed the first of four installments. According to Christine Rawlins in Beyond the Snow, the illustrations used for it were reproduced from Carl Bloch’s paintings at Frederiksborg Castle, Denmark.
Years later in an interview, Goudge herself said that they were unforgettable pictures (above quote). They so seem to have the same down-to-earth yet reverent feel of Goudge’s narrative. Hope you agree!
