"It was one of those intoxicating days when all the best people go mad… for hawthorn petals streamed on the wind, the sun and the rain were flying, and the smell if wet red wallflowers filled the whole world… So how could one help it?…”
🌿 Elizabeth Goudge, Make Believe
Du Frocq short story collection
There has been some interest in this out-of-print short story collection, so here is a bit about it!
Make Believe is the collection of short stories that Goudge wrote about the du Frocq family after the success of her first published novel, Island Magic. ✨
The stories were first published in various periodicals and also other short story collections. Goudge was advised that writing short stories would be a good way to support hergrowing career in its beginning, and she cranked out some really beautiful tales! A few such as these hark back to her novel, but many more are worlds unto themselves and very worth reading if you can get your hands on the volumes. 📚
