“You have been warmed by the sun of Faraway, breathed the fresh air from the sea, walked through the woods and over the great hills. The birds of Faraway have sung to you and you have watched the lambs skipping in the fields…”
🌿 Elizabeth Goudge, Smoky House
I just got home from a trip to the UK in which I was able to visit a few of Goudge’s treasured places. I feel so very thankful to have made it over to see these places that she loved so much, and am still very emotional at the magic of them. I have, with the Fiddler, been “warmed by the sun of Faraway”—and also drizzled by its coastal rain, but it was all sweet. How wonderful to have been carrying around my GGBP copy of Smoky House with me while I was there!
Today we are looking at chapters 10-13 for the Squire, Jessamine, the Fish People, and a look at the real Faraway.
