Hello! I come here by way of Sarah Clarkson’s Book Girl Fellowship. I’ve bought several books of Goudge’s but haven’t read any of her work before today! Several of my purchases are on your list for the coming year. I began For God So Loved the World this morning with my coffee. Her heart for God makes her seem like an old friend. Someone I could sit with and chat over coffee/tea and lose track of time. I’m so excited to be here with you all, to get to know you, and to read Goudge for the first time ❤️
So glad to have you here, Emily! And I am so pleased that you feel that special relational feeling with Goudge already. She was such a devoted person, and that comes through in her writing of this special book for sure. Goudge wrote it during her mother's decline, so it was a moment of keen grief in which her faith was so important for her. Can't wait to walk through to Easter together in March <3
Hi Susan! If you are subscribed here to Substack, then you can get a copy of the book and read it in March with it. We will have discussions here in posts (half of them for free subscribers) and then I will do a live zoom chat for paid subscribers at the end of the month. (Only $5 to join us) Some of the longer posts are also only for paid subscribers, as they are helping me spend my time writing about more about Goudge :)
I will not be reading along this month, although I do own a copy of the book. I have two other Lenten studies going on so am being sensible, but know I can come back to this later.
I am reading it for the first time and find it fascinating, including getting a deeper glimpse into Goudge's theological thinking. Some of it is already surprising me even though I have encountered her heart for God in so many of her other books. Grateful for this part of the journey.
