I came upon a well-worn stack of her books on the "free cart' of the library sales room... and today I see this post. Coincidence? I think not... My first reading of this well-recommended author.
I could read this particular Goudge novel every year. I think I have, for the last 5. I have the same vintage copy as you and this, along with The Dean’s Watch, was the first I found in an op shop for $1. It’s very dear to me as a result because I felt that whoever had owned it had also treasured it and that was carrying on with me.
My favourite Goudge book go to The Elizabeth Goudge Society website, click on the menu bar and go to Bibliographies. The book Scent of Water is highlighted and by clicking on that it will take you to my visit to where the novel is set
Hi… I have already read this book a few years ago, and was just going to “refresh my memory “, w looking at my highlights of the book… but decided to read it again… and I’m so glad I did, as I got so much more out of it! ( more quotes to highlight, etc😊). But, it wasn’t just the quotes that I marked… it was just getting more of the flow of it, that impressed me more this time; wasn’t so concerned w all the characters/interactions, etc., but the overall theme of the “scent of water”, and Goudge’s interpretation of suffering, and what this means in (her), and our every day lives… wow!, so good!😊
This is my first read of Scent of Water. My first read of Goudge was Gentian Hill last month. Looking forward to reading along with everyone.

I've already started reading it. It's my third time through, and I'm noticing details I haven't caught before.
I find that too, every time.
