I celebrated by finishing reading The Rosemary Tree, with its own lovely party scene, and then reading again her short story, "Escape for Jane. i am so glad to read about how others of us appreciate her.
Wonderful Christine! I am hoping to steal some time this afternoon to finish up TRT today And that is one of her funniest short stories!! Sounds perfect. <3
Happy Birthday EG! Lovely looking at that little girl now knowing all these wondrous, beautiful and treasured stories would one day pour from her heart ♥️
Yes, an amazing story. And to think that was how she formed such an attachment to cathedrals - it's amazing. What a gift she was able to share her experience with us.
I have only started reading Goudge about a year ago, but she has already become a favorite author. What a lovely post with more to learn and love about her. Thank you.
'Blossoms, birds and books'. What an excellent choice but also an excellent title for a blog! I celebrated it by playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons as I wrote a letter to a pen friend and looked out at a family of wrens hopping and chittering in my back garden bed. I sat thinking about the enormous impact she has had on my life alone, let alone the countless others who love her work and also those she corresponded with. My heart was filled with gratitude, joy and an upwelling of love for her life, our precious world and for our Creator who gave her such talents, as He does to us all. Happy Birthday Elizabeth Goudge indeed!
That sounds like the perfect Goudge-ian morning :) I am sure she loved the Four Seasons! I do not remember a reference to it, but it is right up her alley - A wonderful piece to add to her day! I know that she loved The Lark Ascending, so that would be another for letter writing and bird watching today :)
I have always thought that larks are the only bird to use when describing a British day which is full of perfect weather and beauty. I cannot transplant them to any other country/setting.

I’m hoping to have tea via video chat with a very good friend and fellow Goudge-ite. 🫖🦄📚🐬💕
A perfect way to celebrate today! :)

Thank you for this!
Thank you, Elizabeth Goudge, for continuing to share meaning and joy in such a time as ours.
You said it one Mary - meaning and joy shared and multiplied.
