It is a very beautiful and intriguing section of the coast. We had a holiday in Devon several years ago and loved it. There were so many little rocky coves to explore and stir the imagination.
I am in Canberra right now, the capital city of Australia and there is a Cockington Green miniature village at a tourist spot. The buildings look very similar. I am also reading a novel by Miss Read and one of the school teachers in Thrush Green is taken to Torquay for a respite at the sea. It really is an incredibly beautiful area and I am grateful for the visuals.
I'm sure she must have later on! It looks like the first episode of 'Fawlty Towers' was 1975, after all of her books were already published. But perhaps she enjoyed thinking back to her Torquay days that way :)

Looks like such a beautiful area! What a wonderful trip. I’m hoping to make it there someday.

That is so amazing to hear! Thanks for sharing Catherine. The British seem to take seriously its name "English Riviera" then.
My friend and I went as children to stay in the summer holidays with her grandmother near Torquay. Happy memories have been evoked by reading this.
What a lovely memory to have! I am so glad that these photos brought it back to you :)
I love this series about Goudge, thankyou so much!
So glad! 💚📚🌿🙏
Gorgeous photos illustrating the prose. Dreamy!
Glad it was enjoyable! I loved seeing the photo of Brixham and matching it to this quote :)
Actually I always associate Torquay with Fawlty Towers!
I'm not familiar with that - is it a Agatha Christie novel? :) She lived in this area as well as Goudge.
Is it known whether Elizabeth Goudge had a TV set? If so, no doubt she watched and laughed at the 'Fawlty Towers' series 🙂

It's part of British culture: a comedy with John Cleese as Basil Fawlty about a dysfunctional hotel.
