Thank you! I am observing this anniversary of her death by spending time exploring Rose Cottage, as you have so beautifully described it, and by musing on the very lovely quotes you have shared from Scent of Water. I am grateful to you and to God
So glad Jeanne! I just added a couple more quotes to her 40th anniversary post from God So Loved the World that seemed so poignant this morning as I finished my reading. What a book! And what an author. So very thankful for Elizabeth today.
I have just started re-reading - before bed, of course!- and I am curious about your earlier posting, Julie - is this considered to be one of Goudge's children's books? I ask because my memory of it is that there are many pretty heavy themes in it, despite it also concerns itself with children's issues...
always interested in. the wisdom you bring to bear here...
Wonderful! Glad you can join us. It is one of her adult novels, which has a great many children in it nonetheless, as you say. The children help us to encounter some of the most difficult parts though! it will be interesting to talk about why that might be this month. More coming tomorrow with an intro!
It will be a first reading for me. I've been thinking to myself lately that I don't think I'll ever be able to read anything but Elizabeth Goudge before bed from now on. Nothing compares to reading her words right before going to sleep.
That is exactly what I have been doing lately, Stephanie - ten pages before bed. It is so calming. So glad you can join us for Rosemary Tree as well!
Also, I forgot to mention that I'll be hosting a zoom book chat again next week for the end of God So Loved the World, on Wednesday March 27th at 3pm EST. I just added the link to the end of the Week 3 post :)
I have not read this particular novel in several years and have to admit that I couldn’t even remember what it was about, the plot or characters. How terrible to say that about an Elizabeth Goudge book! It will be interesting then, to read it along with the group and see if it grows on me.
Glad you can join us Catherine! It is a firm favorite of many Goudge readers, so looking forward to getting back into again. We've read it twice together on IG, so it will be wonderful to have the extra space to explore its themes of redemption here together on Substack <3
I agree that having the space to discuss the books at length has helped me to see more in each of them and to love them more. That is why re reading The Rosemary Tree when I cannot seem to remember it is a good thing. I learn much from other readers here.

This is probably my favorite contemporary Goudge novel. Looking forward to reading it again.
Yay! So glad you can join us!
My absolute favorite! Looking forward to it.
